Outdoors Unscripted hosts the opportunity for artists and nature lovers to receive funds through the Showcasing Open Spaces through Accessible Adventure (SOSAA) grant program.  Initially inspired by Douglas County’s Open Space planning project, SOSAA calls for diverse artists and adventurers to apply for grant awards of $1,000–$1,500 to explore the open spaces of Douglas County and create a work of art based on their explorations. Winners of the grant present their projects to the public at Outdoors Unscripted events throughout the year.

The SOSAA grant competition was held for the first time in 2024, awarding $12,000 in total funds to seven artist-adventurer teams. In 2025, Outdoors Unscripted received $25,000 in grant funds from the Douglas County Heritage Conservation Council to fund the program–$18,000 of which went directly towards the grant awards. Nine winning applicants used creative storytelling techniques to share their adventures in little-known parts of Douglas County, and presented the results of their projects at our end-of-year reception in December 2025.
